SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

GAME ONE: SAVANNAH 1, HAGERSTOWN 6

GAME TWO

SAVANNAH 6, HAGERSTOWN 2 (Box)

The Sand Gnats and the Suns both had eight hits apiece, but the final results were quite different- the Sand Gnats made those hits count, while Seth Lugo and the Savannah bullpen were able to work around them and limit the damage Hagerstown could inflict. The Sand Gnats took the lead in the 2nd inning, and never looked back. In the 2nd, Suns starter Austin Voth walked three consecutive batters and gave up a double to Jeff Glenn that scored two runs- his night came to a quick end, as he was removed from the game for undisclosed reasons, possibly related to an injury. Phil Evans hit a sac fly to increase Savannah's lead to 3-0 before the inning ended.

Seth Lugo continued putting up zeroes on the board, giving the offense the opportunity to pad their lead. In the top of the 5th, Cole Frenzel laced a double to right that scored Dilson Herrera, and Jeff Glenn hit his second RBI-double of the night to drive Frenzel in. In the top of the 8th, Eudy Pina led off the inning with a triple, and was driven home by Brandon Nimmo. Those extra insurance runs would ultimately be unneeded, but would prove helpful. In the bottom of the 8th, the Suns scored two runs off of Paul Sewald. Hagerstown right fielder Bryan Lippincott hit a triple that pushed two runs across the plate. Sewald would escape from the inning, and Beck Wheeler slammed the door in the 9th to even up the series 1-1.

Star of the Night

Seth Lugo looked very good over his six innings of work. He's our Star of the Night.

Goat of the Night

Not really much to go on here. I'm not going to bestow the ignoble honor upon anyone for tonight. No one really deserves it.
