Aaron Harang signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets, the team announced Sunday. The Mets assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Harang is joining his fourth team in 2013. The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Harang to the Colorado Rockies towards the end of spring training. The Rockies then sent the veteran to the Seattle Mariners, where he spent the majority of the season.

The right-hander struggled with Seattle, going 5-11 with a 5.76 ERA. Harang battled home run issues, surrendering 21 over 120⅓ innings pitched. He also struggled with runners on base, posting a career-low 62 percent strand rate.

The Mets will need a sixth starter during September, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. New York also has Daisuke Matsuzaka in their starting rotation, who is 0-2 with a 8.68 ERA after two starts. If Matsuzaka continues to struggle, Harang could replace him in the rotation to audition for a spot in 2014.
