Meet the Mets

In between discussions of John Kruk's first major league appearance, who the NL MVP is, and whether or not Bryce Harper hustles enough, the Mets played a game last night against the Nationals. That's probably not as important, but for the record, they lost 6-5 after the Nationals peppered the Mets pen in a three-run eighth. Jason Fry has the bullet points, and Daily Stache has your twitter conflagration.

Juan Lagares played a pretttttttty nice outfield last night. He's done a lot of that lately. If Lagares can manage a .260/.300/.400 line, that's a pretty damn good center fielder. Mark Simon also has your 'Met'rics from the Nationals series.

The Star-Ledger talked to Tim Byrdak about his rehab process.

Joe Sokolowski brought you the best in Mets quotes.

And Eric Simon checked in with Kevin, shortly after his meeting with Woodward and Bernstein.

Around the NL East

Federal Baseball is maybe a bit too excited about the Nats win last night. Meanwhile, the Phillies got stomped by the Cubs,

Nathan Eovaldi blanked the Braves, while Alex Wood had some issues with the Marlins offense. Eovaldi will have to bring them to the park in September, because Jose Fernandez will make only two more starts before being shut down for the rest of 2013.

Around MLB

Here's all of Sunday's action in one handy dandy scoreboard. Of particular note: The A's completed a three-game sweep of the Rays, and are nipping at the heels of the Rangers.

Carson Cistulli has Daily Notes on all of today's action over at FanGraphs.

Rob Neyer thinks it's fine if Craig Kimbrel is in the conversation for the Cy Young award.

And Howard Megdal writes about ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte.
