Pedro Feliciano surrendered a game-winning home run to Will Venable in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Mets and Padres split their four-game series. Perpetual Pedro had wriggled out of a jam in the eighth inning to keep the score tied 3-3, but couldn't keep the ball in the park against Venable, who led off the ninth inning.
Matt Harvey pitched six solid innings, allowing two runs on six hits while strike out six and issuing no walks. His day ended after just 86 pitches when Andrew Brown pinch hit for him in the seventh inning. Brown came through, smashing an RBI double to center field to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. The Mets bullpen couldn't hold the lead though, as Gonzalez Germen allowed a run in the eighth inning before Feliciano entered the game.
The Mets lineup didn't do much against Padres starter Eric Stults, who was throwing some of the junkiest junk you'll ever see. He threw a 62-mph pitch at one point. Marlon Byrd's RBI double in the first inning, Wilmer Flores' sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, and Brown's RBI double in the seventh inning accounted for the Mets' runs. Travis d'Arnaud went 0-for-2 with two walks and is still looking for his first big-league hit. His .500 OBP is robust, though.
