There are no signs that the Mets will make a significant middle infield addition prior to the 2015 season.
Starting Wilmer Flores at shortstop on Opening Day might not be the worst thing in the world for the Mets. With a strong finish to 2014 and plenty of potential left to fulfill, the 23-year-old could turn out to be the answer the team has been looking for all along.
He also might be the only answer the Mets have left. Sources told ESPN's Adam Rubin that New York is not actively engaged in trade or free agent talks regarding shortstops outside the organization.
While teams such as the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays may have an excess shortstop, a team insider indicated there was little if any dialogue with other clubs at the moment.
Two moves the Mets are more likely to make include the trading away of Dillon Gee and the acquisition of a left-handed relief pitcher to team with Josh Edgin.
If Flores gets off to a slow start in 2015, the Troy Tulowitzki drum will begin to beat again, but it's likely the Mets will want to see how the superstar's hip holds up before making an offer that Colorado will want to accept.
