The Mets beat up on the Marlins and won in a blowout.
The Mets beat the marlins again today, this time in a blowout. The Mets scored twice in the second, twice in the third, and three times in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. Jon Niese had cruised through the first five innings of his outing and gave up three runs in the sixth—thanks in big part to poor defense behind him—before the Marlins brought the tying run to the plate with the bases loaded.
But Niese ended that inning with a strikeout, and the Mets poured on four insurance runs in the seventh. Carlos Torres threw a couple of scoreless innings, too, and Gonzalez Germen allowed two runs in the ninth but managed to finish the game.
With that, the Mets took three of four games from the division rival Marlins in Miami and improved to 35-41 on the season.
