The Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets 11-5 on Sunday afternoon. Anthony DeSclafani and Jacob Turner struggled on the mound for the Marlins.
For the months of April and May, the Miami Marlins were one of baseball's most consistent teams at home. But after losing their seventh game of the ten game home stand on Sunday with an 11-5 loss to the Mets, Miami has had difficulty scoring at home and fell to a game below five hundred.
New York got on the board first in the top of the second against Marlins starter Anthony DeSclafani. Anthony Recker hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Mets a 1-0 edge, and a Jon Niese sacrifice bunt fielded by Jeff Mathis made it a 2-0 contest.
DeSclafani's struggles continued in the third, as a David Wright sac fly and Kirk Nieuwenhuis RBI double gave New York a four run advantage.
Daniel Murphy took DeSclafani deep to right center field in the fourth, ending the former Gator's day. In three and two third innings, DeSclafani yielded seven hits and seven runs while walking two and striking out one.
Niese was effective in six innings of work, and the Mets' bullpen kept the Marlins off the board until the ninth.
Reed Johnson, Giancarlo Stanton, and Marcell Ozuna added RBI hits against Niese in the bottom of the sixth to get Miami on the board, but RBI hits by Anthony Recker, Ruben Tejada, and Eric Young Jr. against Jacob Turner in the seventh extended the Mets' lead to eight.
Turner gave up four runs in three innings of work, walking one and striking out two while continuing to have difficulty finding the strike zone as Miami's long man out of the bullpen.
Bryan Morris and A.J. Ramos each posted an inning of scoreless relief, and a Justin Bour double in the ninth against Gonzalez Germen made it an 11-5 contest before Germen ended the game.
