Meet the Mets

The Mets lost their series-opener against the Marlins last night in Miami 4–3. They were up 3–0 going into the bottom of the eighth before Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up three runs without recording an out. Then, tied 3–3 in the bottom of the ninth, Gonzalez Germen gave up the winning run on a Casey McGehee RBI single. Lost in the meltdown was a fine performance from Jon Niese, who threw seven innings of shutout baseball, striking out six and walking one. Daniel Murphy and Curtis Granderson each hit home runs in the losing effort.
