Ring joins manager Jose Carreno and hitting coach Ender Chavez to round out the coaching staff.

According to Mets Farm Report, Royce Ring has been named as the new pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Mets. Before Ring, Josh Towers had filled the position. It appears that the organization is making its final personnel decisions with the beginning of the Gulf Coast League season approaching at the end of June. Ring will join a coaching staff that is headed by manager Jose Carreno and also includes hitting coach Ender Chavez.

Ring made his major league debut with the Mets as a reliever in 2005 and last pitched in the majors in 2010. He was pitching for the independent Long Island Ducks as recently as last summer.

A former first-round pick of the Chicago White Sox, the Mets acquired Ring in July 2003 in exchange for pariah and thoroughgoing New York baseball disaster Roberto Alomar. In November 2006, Ring was packaged with Heath Bell and shipped to San Diego in a regrettable trade for pitcher Jon Adkins and outfielder Ben Johnson.
