Dillon Gee was very good as the Mets took the weekend series.
The Mets took the rubber game from the Marlins on Sunday afternoon in a game that featured a long Chris Young home run, an excellent catch in foul territory by David Wright, and very good Mets pitching. Dillon Gee made his best start of the year, throwing eight shutout innings. He struck out six, walked four, and gave up just three hits. With that, he’s down to a 2.88 ERA on the season.
Lucas Duda got the Mets on the board with a ground rule double in the second, an inning that could have been much bigger for the Mets but resulted in just that run. A David Wright double plated Curtis Granderson in the fifth for the Mets’ second run, and one out later, Chris Young hit a home run to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.
And Carlos Torres—in his fourteenth appearance of the year already—set down the Marlins in order in the ninth to complete the win.
