Mets Daily Farm Report: April 27, 2014: Teagarden tees off, Bradford has a meltdown

Triple-A - Las Vegas 51s (18–5)______________________________________

TACOMA 3, LAS VEGAS 11 (Box)

The 51s hit Raniers' right-hander Chance Ruffin hard from the outset in this their third matchup of the young season. They put five up in the bottom of the first frame on Ruffin, who loaded the bases without recording an out before the floodgates opened. After scoring an easy two on a bases-loaded walk and a force out at second, Taylor Teagarden drove one over the wall in right to bring in three more. That would be enough to defeat Tacoma, but Vegas didn't stop there, adding a run in the third and two apiece in both the fifth and sixth innings. Anthony Seratelli started the action in the fifth on a run-scoring triple and Teagarden added a two-run homer in the sixth to make it two for the game. Andrew Brown capped it all off with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the seventh. Right-hander Jacob deGrom toed the rubber for the 51s, and while he wasn't sharp—allowing seven hits and walking three in his five innings of work—it was good enough for the win, which takes his record to a perfect 3–0. Las Vegas, who find themselves atop their division with a commanding four-and-a-half game lead (and possess the best overall record in the PCL), goes for the series sweep against the Raniers today at 3:05 EST.

Double-A - Binghamton Mets (11–8)______________________________________

Game 1

BINGHAMTON 8, ERIE 1 (Box)

The B-Mets would only play seven frames in this game, as it became a double-header day when their game with Erie was postponed on Friday. So with limited time in which to work, Binghamton got started early. After Kyle Johnson doubled to lead off the game, Matt Reynolds brought him home an out later with a line drive to center. That would be all they would get in the first off of SeaWolves' starter Jeff Ferrell, but they would touch him up for four more in the second. Mimicking Johnson's act from the first inning, Kevin Plawecki doubled to center to start things off. He was brought around to score when Wilfredo Tovar singled, but the B-Mets weren't done. With Jayce Boyd and Tovar aboard, Kyle Johnson launched one to left for his first home run of the year to plate three more. The bats would quiet down for four innings before Binghamton would get three more on Matt Clark's sixth home run of the season in the top of the seventh. Right-hander Matthew Bowman took the mound for the B-Mets, and limited Erie to one run over his five and one-third innings. Adam Kolarek came in in the seventh to notch an easy one-two-three save.

Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (13–9)______________________________________

BRADENTON 4, ST. LUCIE 3 (Box)

St. Lucie squared off against the Bradenton Marauders and right-hander Chad Kuhl on Saturday, and keeping with the trend of the day in the Mets' system, scored early. Dilson Herrera led off the bottom of the first with a double to right and was brought around to score on a Brandon Nimmo single. The Mets would plate one more in the inning when Cam Maron singled Nimmo home to make it 2–0 St. Lucie. Bradenton would answer in the top of the fourth, scoring two of their own off of Mets starter Domingo Tapia, who was hittable in his six innings of work, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk. St. Lucie was good for only one more run in the game after their promising start, and the bullpen assured that that extra run wouldn't make a difference when Bradenton put their fourth on the board in the top of the seventh. With the loss, Tapia falls to 1–3 on the season. St. Lucie goes for the series win today.

Low-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (14–7)______________________________________

SAVANNAH 0, LAKEWOOD 3 (Box)

The Savannah Sand Gnats went down quietly in game four of their five-game set against the Lakewood BlueClaws. The offense managed only four hits against Mark Leiter, who managed to do a pretty solid impression of his Uncle Al by going eight innings and striking out five. Savannah's right-hander John Gant was no slouch either, striking out ten and walking three in his six innings of work. But the Sand Gnats' quiet bats required perfection from the pitching staff on Saturday, and that was a standard they couldn't quite live up to. Savannah finds themselves atop the Northern Division of the Sally League, and will look to take four of five from Lakewood today.
