The Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Tom Koehler struggled on the mound, and the Marlins couldn't rally facing Dillon Gee.

After coming back from a 5-1 defecit to win Saturday night's contest, the Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets 4-0 on Sunday afternoon, dropping the series and ensuring a losing road trip.

Koehler's quest to throw strikes

In each start heading into Sunday's outing, Tom Koehler had gone at least six innings and hadn't given up more than two runs. Neither held true for Koehler against the Mets as a result of several leadoff walks and an inability to retire hitters at the bottom of the New York order.

Lucas Duda got the Mets on the board first with an RBI-single to left field in the second, and Dillon Gee walked to load the bases before Koehler retired Eric Young Jr. to end the threat.

Koehler walked Curtis Granderson to begin the fifth, and a David Wright double and Chris Young two run homer provided the Mets with all of the offense they would need.

Over his five innings, Koehler gave up five hits and four runs while walking four and striking out just two. His inability to get ahead of hitters and throw his offspeed pitches for strikes plagued him.

Gee dominates Marlins lineup

A night after posting four runs in the sixth inning and eventually taking a late lead, the Marlins couldn't score runs against Mets starter Dillon Gee. Gee went eight innings and gave up three hits while walking four, but Miami couldn't put a rally together.

The Marlins were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position, and Adeiny Hechavarria bounced into a double play to end a potential threat in the seventh.

Giancarlo Stanton hit into the Mets' shift, and Dee's breaking balls, notably his changeup, effectively kept the Marlins guessing.

Bullpen keeps it close

Despite Koehler's struggles, the Marlins were able to remain in the game. After his departure, Carter Capps pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief.

Brad Hand also pitched a scoreless eighth out of the bullpen.

Miami lost both series of the road trip, and opens a three game series with Atlanta starting Tuesday night.
