Mets Trade Rumors: Ike Davis still has three suitors

As the Winter Meetings enter their final day, three teams are still interested in Ike Davis.

According to former Mets general manager and current baseball insider Jim Duquette, three teams remain in the mix for Mets first baseman Ike Davis: the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, and Tampa Bay Rays. While Davis will turn just 27 years old in March and has a 32 home run season to his name, he's really struggled in the big leagues over the past couple of years.

In return for Davis, the Mets are reportedly looking for young pitching. Even with Bartolo Colon signed, that doesn't figure to change. If the team finds itself with a surplus of pitching, they will either have trade chips to acquire upgrades at places like shortstop or first base, or they can turn some of their young starters into relief pitchers in hopes of building a dominant bullpen.

Whatever the return for Davis, there's no doubt that he and Lucas Duda are redundant on the Mets' roster. Since Davis has the longer track record, he's likely more appealing to other teams. That also makes him more expensive than Duda, which makes him more appealing to trade to the Mets, even if they have spent real money on the free agent market this winter.
