The 32-year-old outfielder could be a fit for the Mets.

Sandy Alderson met with free-agent outfielder Curtis Granderson yesterday, according to Ken Rosenthal. After an injury-plagued 2013 season, Granderson declined a qualifying offer from the Yankees. There Mets have reportedly had at least some interest in him ever since.

It's no secret that the Mets need good hitters, and they're particularly lacking bats in the outfield. Even if Chris Young thrives in an everyday role, the Mets' next two outfielders on the depth chart are currently Juan Lagares and Eric Young Jr. Granderson will turn 33 years old in March, but he has hit .244/.338/.504 with 91 home runs in 1,620 plate appearances over the past three seasons.

Perhaps Granderson's offensive surge was a product of the short porch in right field at Yankee Stadium, but he's a legitimate major league hitter. While he's less appealing that Shin-Soo Choo, Granderson would be a much better signing for the Mets than Nelson Cruz.
