Jeremy Hefner could use a hug right now. The righthanded Pat Misch started tonight's game and failed to record an out, giving up seven runs in the process. Hefner gave up six singles and a walk before being pulled with the Phillies up 4-0. Collin McHugh entered the suck and allowed all three of his inherited runners to score, plus one of his own for good measure. It was 8-0 before the Mets came up to bat; bless you Mets fans who made it out to Citi Field tonight.
Just to be a**holes, the Phillies put up a seven spot in the ninth inning, capped by a Ryan Howard grand slam off Josh Edgin. It's the second night in a row that Howard took Edgin deep. Where have you gone, Pedro Feliciano?
Phillies starter Tyler "Fliff" Cloyd held the punchless Mets offense in check through eight innings. Mike Baxter's fifth inning solo home run accounted for the Mets' only run. Fred Lewis went 1-for-2 with two walks, making the most of a late-season, late-career opportunity. Outside of Baxter and Lewis, Mets batters reached base twice.
The Mets are a disgrace. Back with a full recap afdah this.
We knew it was over when...
The top of the first was still going halfway through Wheel of Fortune.
