Mets Player Performance Meter: Pitchers, Week 23

With Matt Harvey on the shelf awaiting the opinion of Dr. James Andrews, it's a little tough to focus on the rest of the team's pitching staff. For now, though, at least some of his rotation-mates are pitching well enough to make it look like the Mets could at least have a respectable, if unspectacular, rotation in his potential absence in 2014.

David Aardsma, RHPAardsma struggled again, as he has almost every week since the end of June.
Scott Atchison, RHPIt's been a while since Atchison had a great week, but here we are.
Vic Black, RHPIt's easy to see why the Mets acquired Black: he throws hard and strikes hitters out. With a 4.15 ERA and 4 K with 0 BB in 4.1 innings this week, though, the results were a bit of a mixed bag.
Greg Burke, RHP--With the Vegas season over, at least Burke won't have to worry about going back and forth between there and New York anymore.
Tim Byrdak, LHPIt's been a rough go of it for Byrdak since he came back from shoulder surgery.
Pedro Feliciano, LHPIt's tough to watch a diminished pitcher, but perhaps Feliciano can stick around in MLB next year as a very-strictly-lefty specialist.
Frank Francisco, RHP--In his return to the big leagues, he got rocked to the tune of a 13.50 ERA and had to leave a game with a wrist injury.
Dillon Gee, RHPGee threw two more very good starts and totaled a 2.63 ERA with 13 K and 2 BB in 13.2 innings for the week. He's been the Mets' best pitcher lately.
Gonzalez Germen, RHPAfter struggling for much of the past few weeks, Germen notched 7 K and didn't walk anyone in 4 innings of work. Excellent.
Aaron Harang, RHP--With 3 solo home runs allowed in 6 innings, Harang wasn't perfect, but he had 10 K and 1 BB in his Mets debut. That'll make him a quirky Mets trivia answer down the road.
LaTroy Hawkins, RHPHawkins had another very good week, which really comes as no surprise at this point.
Sean Henn, LHP--Henn was actually with the team last week but didn't play. This week he threw 1.1 scoreless frames.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, RHPBelieve it or not, Matsuzaka put together his second straight good start. Facing the Marlins helps, of course, but perhaps his last couple of starts won't be as intolerable as his first three were.
Jon Niese, LHP7 strikeouts and 0 walks in 6.1 innings is always good, but Niese served up a pair of home runs and three runs in total in his lone start.
Carlos Torres, RHPIn 10 innings, Torres gave up 8 runs.
Zack Wheeler, RHPThe bright spot of the Mets' post-Harvey season has been Wheeler, who looks more and more like a good major league pitcher with every outing.

This week's player meter covers the Mets' games from September 9 through 15.
