The Mets and Marlins split a doubleheader this afternoon in Queens, as Miami won the first game and the Mets won the second. Surprisingly, the Mets' win came in the game that Daisuke Matsuzaka started.

Game 1: Marlins 3, Mets 0

There wasn't much to see in the first game. Henderson Alvarez shut the Mets out for seven innings, and fist-pumpin' Chad Qualls and Steve Cishek threw a scoreless frame apiece to keep the Mets off the board. New York had just four hits in the game, two of which came from Matt den Dekker.

If there was a highlight in the game, it was Carlos Torres's outing, which lasted six innings. He struck out eight, walked two, and allowed just two runs. Five relief pitchers pitched after him, but only Tim Byrdak was charged with a run. Frank Francisco left the game with a wrist injury.

Game 2: Mets 3, Marlins 1

Daisuke Matsuzaka threw seven innings, gave up one run on two hits, struck out three, and walked one. He needed just 91 pitches to do so.

Wilmer Flores drove in a run with a single in the first inning, and Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the third inning. Those three runs were all the Mets would need. Pedro Feliciano and Vic Black combined for a scoreless eighth, and Black struck out two batters in his two-thirds of an inning. LaTroy Hawkins threw a scoreless ninth for the all-important save.
