The Mets have activated Jeurys Familia from the disabled list. He'll be with the team in time for today's doubleheader. The 23-year-old last pitched for the Mets on May 8 and hit the shelf with biceps tendinitis a couple days later.

In June, Familia had surgery to remove bone spurs and loose bodies from his right elbow. At the time, there wasn't any guarantee that he would even return to the mound by the end of the season. But he started a brief rehab stint on on September 1 with Port St. Lucie and most recently pitched last night in the Savannah Sand Gnats' championship-clinching game in the South Atlantic League.

In 10.1 innings in the big leagues this year, Familia's results were mixed. He had a 3.48 ERA and 6.24 FIP with some pretty terrible rate stats: 6.10 strikeouts, 6.10 walks, and 1.74 home runs per nine innings. Still, his return is a welcome surprise, as he occasionally showed the ability to dominate coming out of the team's bullpen.
