Carlos Torres looked like an ace for six innings but gave up two home runs in the seventh inning as the Braves beat the Mets 3-1. Evan Gattis tied the game 1-1 with a flick-of-the-wrist solo home run, and Andrelton Simmons gave the Braves a 3-1 lead two batters later on a two-run shot. Three runs were plenty for Braves starter Kris Medlen and three relievers, who combined to rack up 11 strikeouts.
Daniel Murphy drove in Eric Young Jr. for the lone Mets run. EYJ tripled with one out in the sixth inning, and Murphy drove him home with a double. However, Josh Satin and Lucas Duda grounded out and struck out, respectively, stranding Murph in scoring position. The Mets put two runners on base in both the seventh and eighth innings but once again failed to score. They were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position on the night. At least it was a relatively quick game, at 2 hours, 42 minutes.
