The way Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched this afternoon, the Mets really didn't have a chance against the Braves. The veteran righty gave up six runs in just three innings, digging a hole that too deep for the Mets to escape.
With a run in the second and two more in the fourth, the Mets were in the game when Matsuzaka was lifted for a pinch hitter. But their bullpen turned a game that was within reach into a laugher once again. While Tim Byrdak threw one-and-one-third scoreless innings in his return to the big leagues after shoulder surgery last year, Gonzalez Germen and Pedro Feliciano coughed up four runs in just one-and-one-third innings combined to put the Braves up 10-3.
The Mets scored two runs in the seventh, but David Aardsma allowed three more Atlanta runs in the eighth inning to make that mini-comeback completely irrelevant.
