The New York Mets placed third baseman David Wright on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring, according to the team's official Twitter page.

Wright suffered from soreness in his hamstring for a week. He first felt tightness in last weekend's series against the Nationals, then had cramps on Wednesday. Wright had an MRI on Saturday morning. Manager Terry Collins estimated Wright would miss three to five weeks, per Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

He aggravated the injury further on Friday when he attempted to outrun an infield ground ball in the 10th inning of the Mets' contest against the Royals. He hit a chopper up the middle, which Kansas City second baseman Miguel Tejada fielded and threw wide of Eric Hosmer. Wright was safe on the play, but began to limp just short of the bag and clutched his right leg. He was removed from the game for a pitch-runner.

Outfielder Mike Baxter has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Wright's roster spot. Baxter was with the Mets earlier in the season, hitting .212/.333/.282 over 47 games. He has an .863 OPS with 15 stolen bases in 42 games with Las Vegas this season.
