The Marlins won their third Grape Fruit League game on Monday with a big victory over the New York Mets. Plus links on Matt Latos, Hector Olivera, and more.

Marlins News

The Marlins defeated the Mets 13-2 on Monday for their third victory in Grape Fruit League play.  David Phelps started in place of Matt Latos and pitched three innings, while only allowing one run.  Jordany Valdespin had two hits and collected three RBI's.  Reid Brignac also had three hits and three RBI's.  Derek Dietrich had two hits as well.

After getting his Marlins Spring Training Debut pushed back, Matt Latos threw two successful innings in a simulated game.  He is now scheduled to make his first start against the Cardinals on Friday.

With Jose Fernandez still rehabbing from an elbow injury and questions surrounding who will be the fifth starter, the Marlins may consider keeping 13 pitchers on the 25-man roster.

Cuban Prospect, Hector Olivera, has been ruled an eligible free agent by the MLB and the Marlins are reported to be a potential suitor.

Jose Fernandez will most likely be out until around the All-Star break, but his return can not come soon enough for the playoff-hopeful Marlins.

Around the League

After feeling discomfort in his throwing elbow, Cliff Lee's status is unknown at this point as he waits for a second opinion on his MRI of his elbow.  The discomfort is in the same part of his elbow that he injured last season, which caused him to miss the ladder part of the year.

Devin Mesoraco of the Cincinnati Reds has been ruled out indefinitely after suffering a concussion from a foul-tip hitting him in the mask.

Scheduled to be a free agent next offseason, Rick Porcello is focused on this upcoming season and does not want to talk about possible contract talks with the Red Sox.

Reggie Jackson has decided to auction off the letters that spelt out "Yankee Stadium", which he owns, on the old Yankee Stadium.  The letters are believed to be sold somewhere between $300,000-$600,000.
