Matt Harvey talked about his progress after elbow surgery and his expectations for the 2015 season.
In an interview on SNY's Hot Stove that will air tonight, Matt Harvey was asked about the progress he has made since having Tommy John Surgery during the 2013 season and his expectations for 2015. Steve Gelbs asked him how ready he feels for the the upcoming season, to which he responded:
It's been pretty easy. I think from the first day that I started throwing at four months it's been a very pleasing rehab and I'm extremely happy with the way things feel now. I'm happy where I'm at and I think my goal of being ready beginning of February to try and face some hitters and get some early BP. It's definitely happening so whatever they decide, I'm good to go and excited about getting down there.
Also of note was Harvey being asked about his communication with Terry Collins and the front office regarding an innings limit for 2015. He seemed willing to abide by the ground rules set up by the team for him, even remaining open to the idea that he might be shut down during the season to conserve innings. This is in contrast to last season, during which he clashed with the front office over the pace of his rehab. Harvey wished to get back to the Mets before the end of the 2014 season while the team insisted he would not pitch until 2015.
With Harvey back, a strong Mets rotation figures to get even stronger. The success of him along with Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, and, less likely, Dillon Gee, will go a long way towards pushing the Mets into contention this year.
