The young prodigy won't be able to sign with a team until July 2.

Since the Mets signed Michael Cuddyer at the outset of the offseason, there hasn't been a ton of free agent buzz surrounding the team. The Mets need a shortstop, and there aren't many good ones who are readily available. Plus we know that Sandy Alderson and company prefer assets who are young, cheap, and can be controlled for years.

That's where Vladimir Guerrero Jr. comes in. The 15-year-old prospect and son of legendary slugger Vladimir Guerrero is on New York's radar according to MLB.com reporter Jesse Sanchez.

The young Guerrero recently made waves on the internet when a workout video of him surfaced. Despite his age, the 6'2", 220-pound Guerrero can be seen mashing the ball with a wooden bat and no batting gloves.

Since he's a native of the Dominican Republic, Guerrero will be able to sign as an international free agent starting on July 2. He may be considered a long-term project, but some scouts believe Guerrero will be ready for the majors as early as his age-20 season.
