Last month the Metsinterviewed Pat Roessler for the vacant assistant hitting coach position. Today they announced that they have officially hired him to help steer the Mets' offensive approach.

Roessler most recently served as the Director of Player Development for the Yankees but has extensive prior coaching experience. He served as a minor league hitting coach in the White Sox, Expos, and Pirates organizations. He then was the major league hitting coach for the Expos for two years. From there he became the minor league hitting coordinator for the Astros before finally joining the Yankees.

The position of assistant hitting coach is a relatively new one for the Mets and other teams. It was previously held by Luis Natera, but he was let go at the end of the season.
