R.A. Dickey was back to his dominant self this evening in Los Angeles. In eight scoreless innings, Dickey struck out ten, walked one, and allowed only two hits, one of which should have been caught by Andres Torres in center field.
The Mets made the game easy for Dickey, scoring nine runs in the game after failing to score with the bases loaded in the top of the first. They scored two in the third, three in the fifth, and four in the seventh to cruise to victory with Dickey on the mound. Jeremy Hefner threw a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout.
We knew it was over when...
The Mets plated their first run of the game in the third inning. With Dickey on the mound, the Dodgers' chances were very slim.
What else?
- Dickey's outing including a retaliatory bean ball. He hit Dee Gordon in the bottom of the sixth inning after Aaron Harang hit Ruben Tejada, who had gone 3-for-3 against him, in the top of the sixth.
- Every player on the Mets who had a plate appearance reached base at least once. Dickey had a single to go along with his great start, and Daniel Murphy went 2-for-5 with 5 RBI and a three-run home run.
