Juan Nicasio pitched the opener of the Sky Sox doubleheader, allowing six runs (all earned) on nine hits in six innings, walking a pair and striking out five. Boone Logan also made a rehab appearance, allowing a home run to Arismendy Alcantara in his inning of work in the Sky Sox 7-3 loss.
Wilton Lopez got the start in the nightcap, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits in 2 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. Kyle Parker contributed to a seven-run onslaught for the Sky Sox in the first three innings with a two-run home run, his ninth of the season. Cubs player-coach Manny Ramirez (yes, that one) went 0-for-4 in his team's loss.
AA - San Antonio Missions 8, Tulsa Drillers 4
It was a rough day at the office for Drillers starter Richard Castillo, who allowed eight runs on 10 hits in six innings in Tulsa's 8-4 loss. Catcher Ryan Casteel did contribute to the offensive effort with his 10th home run of the season.
High-A - High Desert Mavericks 6, Modesto Nuts 5
The Nuts were the victim of a walk-off loss Thursday as High Desert's Patrick Brady doubled home Bryan Brito in the bottom of the ninth against Modesto reliever Alving Mejias to give the Mavericks a 6-5 win. Nuts first baseman Jordan Ribera had three hits in the loss.
A - Asheville Tourists 9, Greenville Drive 4
Alex Balog put together a solid start for the Tourists, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings with a walk and five strikeouts. David Dahl went 2-for-3 with his 17th double of the season and Jose Briceno contributed four hits to the offensive effort.
Short-Season A - Vancouver Canadians 6, Try-City Dust Devils 4
A pair of unearned runs was the Dust Devils' undoing in a 6-4 loss to Vancouver Thursday. Starting pitcher Tyler Gagnon allowed just two earned runs (four total) in four innings of work and first baseman Miguel Dilone contributed his first home run of the season for the Dust Devils.
Rookie - Idaho Falls Chukars 6, Grand Junction Rockies 2
Javier Palacios was roughed up for the Rockies Thursday night, allowing five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of work with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts. The offensive star for Grand Junction was leadoff man Denzel Richardson, who had a double and a triple.
DSL - DSL Mets1 7, DSL Rockies 6 (11 innings)
The DSL Rockies dropped an extra-inning affair to the Mets yesterday, losing 6-5 in 11 innings. Luis Guzman was the only one of six Rockies pitchers that did not allow a run on the day. On the offensive side, right fielder Ramon Marcelino was a home run short of the cycle.
