The standout catching prospect will join the team in Sacramento on Thursday.

promotion for Travis d'Arnaud and a trip to the DL for Taylor Teagarden have resulted in a big opportunity for 23-year-old Kevin Plawecki. Hours after being named to MLB Futures Games, Plawecki—a 2012 supplemental first round pick—was promoted from Double-A Binghamton to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s. Plawecki has excelled at Double-A Binghamton in 2014, sporting an impressive .326/.378/.487 slash line with six home runs and 44 RBI over the first several months of the season.

Amazin Avenue's own Jeffrey Pasternostro wrote up an excellent scouting report on the young catcher earlier this year. To summarize, Plawecki is an excellent hitting prospect without much power, a below-average arm, and a below-average glove. In order to make it in the majors, he'll have to learn how to effectively call a game and hit well enough to make up for his fielding. Plawecki's future with the Mets may depend more on the success or failure of d'Arnaud than his own development, but for now, Plawecki will get a chance to prove he belongs on the Triple-A roster.
