Long after Matt Harvey threw 121 pitches and gave up three runs in seven innings of work, the Mets beat the Giants in sixteen innings in San Francisco. Harvey was okay in his start, serving up a two-run home run in the first inning to Buster Posey and settling down through the sixth inning.

A John Buck double in the fifth got the Mets on the board, but the team took the lead with two runs in the sixth thanks to four terrible defensive plays by the Giants. Harvey went back out to pitch the seventh inning, though, with his pitch count already over 100, and allowed the Giants to tie the game almost instantly. He got out of the inning with the game tied, and then both bullpens kept the game that way until the sixteenth inning.

Eric Young hit a one-out single, stole second base, and—after the Giants intentionally walked David Wright—came around to score on an error by Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford. That run was enough for Bobby Parnell, who allowed a pair of baserunners in the bottom half of the inning but did not allow either of them to score.
