The Miami Marlins got a strong debut from Andrew Heaney, who kept the Fish in the game through six innings. But Zack Wheeler threw a complete game shutout and the New York Mets won 1-0 on a David Wright home run.

The Miami Marlins debuted Andrew Heaney in tonight's game versus the New York Mets, but it turned out it was the Mets' Zack Wheeler who wanted to make a dominant impression on the opposing team. While Heaney was good throughout the night, Wheeler pitched mistake-free baseball and went the complete game, shutting out the Fish 1-0.

Heaney eventually went six solid innings for Miami, but made one critical error in his otherwise good debut. In the first inning, following a double play that cleared the bases, David Wright took a two-strike pitch and sent it to one of the deepest places in Marlins Park. Wright deposited a pitch into the fake pool of water in the Monstrosity home run structure, putting the Mets up 1-0.

Heaney would eventually retire up to eight in a row and only allow three more baserunners in his six innings, but the early damage was enough with Wheeler at his best on the mound. The Mets starter put up a complete game and struck out eight Marlins while walking one and allowing just three hits. Because of three double plays by the Mets' defense, Wheeler faced only one more hitter than the minimum in shutting out the Fish.

Miami will try its luck again tomorrow night as the teams battle in the second of a four-game set.
