Troy Tulowitzki and Charlie Blackmon remained hot while Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak. All of that helped Jorge De La Rosa get back to .500 on the season.
The Rockies had issues scoring late in each of their last couple of games. It cost them a win on Wednesday, but they were able to avoid disaster on Thursday.
They had no such issues closing out the game on Friday as any momentum the Mets were starting to build was halted by the Rockies putting up three runs in the seventh inning en route to a 10-3 victory at Coors Field. Charlie Blackmon and Troy Tulowitzki had three hits apiece, and it was Blackmon's solo homer off of former Rockie Carlos Torres that got the ball rolling in the insurance-filled seventh.
One of Tulo's three singles also took place in that inning and eventually resulted in a run when he scored on Wilin Rosario's sacrifice fly. Nolan Arenado also scored a run in the seventh after extending his hitting streak to 22 games with a single following Blackmon's homer. Arenado's streak is the third longest in Rockies history.
Colorado scored four in the first and two in the second to put the Mets in a big early hole. Both Blackmon and Tulowitzki had hits in each inning, and Tulowitzki's second-inning knock drove in two runs.
Nick Groke of the Denver Post initially speculated that Tulowitzki might have injured himself on the two-run single after the Rockies shortstop froze in a rundown situation and appeared to grab his groin. Fortunately, Groke confirmed after the game that there was no injury -- minor or otherwise -- to Tulo.
Jorge De La Rosa allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings, striking out three batters in what was his third quality start of the season -- all of which have come in his last four outings. He wasn't at his best on Friday, but he was able to induce six groundouts and throw just enough of his 100 pitches for strikes -- 62 to be exact -- to remain effective enough to get a win against what is a pretty poor offense.
Chris Martin, Matt Belisle and Tommy Kahnle combined for three scoreless innings of what was mostly drama-free relief, a good sign considering the last couple of nights.
The Rockies go for their fifth consecutive series victory on Saturday. They'll have Franklin Morales on the mound opposing Mets starter Jenrry Mejia, who is coming off a poor outing against the Marlins.
