Mets hitters did not have a great first week of the season.
At 3.5 runs scored per game, the Mets' offense ranks 10th in the National League. With a .178/.251/.346 line and .266 wOBA overall, though, the team has been the third-worst at the plate so far. It's very early, of course, but those numbers clearly won't cut it.
Player | Last Week | This Week | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Andrew Brown, OF | -- | ![]() | Filling in for the injured Chris Young on Opening Day, Brown’s three-run home run was pretty great. Unfortunately, he hit just .111 with zero walks in nine plate appearances in total this week. |
Travis d’Arnaud, C | -- | ![]() | Hitless in fifteen at-bats to begin the year, d’Arnaud has only gotten on base twice and struck out six times. |
Ike Davis, 1B | -- | ![]() | With a pinch-hit walk off grand slam, Davis could have earned the green arrow without much else, but he hit .500/.556/1.000 in nine plate appearances. |
Lucas Duda, 1B | -- | ![]() | Not to be outdone, Duda hit two two-run home runs on Friday night to help give the Mets their first win of the season. His overall hitting line of .143/.250/.571 wasn’t as impressive as Ike’s, but an .821 OPS isn’t bad in 2014. |
Wilmer Flores, 2B | -- | ![]() | 0-for-4 in his lone appearance filling in for Daniel Murphy, Flores will get plenty of playing time in Vegas, much of it at shortstop to see if he can play the position again. |
Curtis Granderson, RF | -- | ![]() | Granderon’s going to strike out plenty, and he did over the first week, but of his four hits, three were doubles, and one was a home run. |
Juan Lagares, CF | -- | ![]() | The question about Lagares entering the season was his bat, and he’s hit .350/.417/.700 thus far. While those numbers will obviously come down, he’s off to a fantastic start and will not have to worry about playing time for at least as long as Chris Young is on the disabled list. Here’s hoping he’s still playing every day after Young’s return, too. |
Daniel Murphy, 2B | -- | ![]() | With a .579 OPS and three errors at second base in four games, this was decidedly not a great week on the field for Murphy. |
Omar Quintanilla, SS | -- | ![]() | So far, Quintanilla is 0-for-1 on the season. Over-under on his plate appearances this week: 1.5. |
Anthony Recker, C | -- | ![]() | Sure, Recker was hitless in four trips to the plate, but he threw out the ultra-speedy Billy Hamilton in a key spot on Friday night. |
Josh Satin, 1B | -- | ![]() | Satin started just once and went 0-for-3 with a walk in total. |
Ruben Tejada, SS | -- | ![]() | While his .222/.333/.278 slash line this week isn’t all that impressive in general, Tejada didn’t come close to those numbers last year. |
David Wright, 3B | -- | ![]() | The Mets’ best player hit just .238/.320/.381 this week, but there are undoubtedly better weeks ahead for him. |
Chris Young, OF | -- | ![]() | Held back on Opening Day to rest a tight quad, Young was able to play just the top of the first inning in the team’s second game of the year before hitting the disabled list. |
Eric Young Jr., LF | -- | ![]() | In twenty plate appearances, Young hit just .105 with a .301 OPS. He robbed a home run on Friday night, a significant part of the Mets’ win that night, but Young was the team’s worst regular hitter and didn’t steal a base when he did get on. |
