The Mets dropped the series finale against the Reds as they fall to 2-4 on the young season.
Alfredo Simon shut the Mets offense down over seven innings and Manny Parra tossed two scoreless innings for the save as the Mets fell to the Reds 2-1 in their series finale. Jon Niese made his return from the DL and looked good but was saddled with the defeat.
The Mets got the scoring started in the second inning when Ike Davis led off the frame with a double and Juan Lagares promptly singled him in. They had another chance in the third after Niese walked and Eric Young doubled to put runners on second and third with one out but Daniel Murphy and David Wright both struck out to end the threat. After that, Simon and Parra held the Mets down the rest of the way.
Niese, meanwhile, looked great in his first start and cruised through the first five innings before he tired in the sixth. Joey Votto hit a sacrifice fly to tie things up and Ryan Ludwick singled in the go-ahead run, chasing Niese from the game. The Mets had little going after that, though Travis d'Arnaud just missed what looked to be a home run off the bat in the seventh inning.
