Marlon Byrd came up big in the last two innings and Jeremy Hefner tossed tossed another fine game, as the Mets defeated the Rockies 3-2 in their one game makeup in Colorado.
Jeremy Hefner was excellent for the Mets as he tossed six innings, allowing just two runs to score in the second frame. Overall, he allowed five hits, while walking one and striking out three. Tyler Chatwood, meanwhile, matched him with six mostly excellent innings of his own, allowing just a single run in the fifth. The game took a huge turn in the Mets' favor in the top of the eighth inning. With Matt Belisle on the mound for the Rockies, Daniel Murphy led off the inning with a single and stole second base. With Murphy at second, Marlon Byrd launched a two-run home run to left center field, putting the Mets ahead 3-2. Byrd had a huge hand in the ninth inning as well, as he threw out Michael Cuddyer from right field trying to stretch a leadoff single into a double.
