The bespectacled veteran also gets an invitation to major league spring training.

The Mets have signed Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league deal with an invitation to major league spring training. In his age-37 season last year, Farnsworth split time with the Rays and Pirates and posted a 4.70 ERA and 4.14 FIP, but he's not too far removed from a couple of good years with Tampa.

We profiled Farnsworth here in early January. Here's an excerpt:

Three years removed from that season, Farnsworth would not make for an exciting signing, though his value figures to be pretty low. While he doesn't look quite as good as LaTroy Hawkins did last winter, perhaps he'd make for a similar type of signing for the Mets, who are still looking to bring in a relief pitcher.

On a minor league deal, there's very little harm in giving Farnsworth a shot. While the Mets have plenty of exciting young arms available as options for the bullpen, only Bobby Parnell and Carlos Torres have significant track records in the majors.
