Another arbitration-eligible player is in the fold as the Mets lock up their closer for next year.

The Mets have avoided salary arbitration with closer Bobby Parnell, settling on a $3.7 million deal for 2014.

Parnell—whether or not he may be prone to meltdowns—was the Mets' best relief pitcher last year, striking out 44 batters and walking just 12 in 50 innings. He made $1.7 million in 2013 in his first year of arbitration eligibility.

MLB Trade Rumors projected Parnell's arbitration salary at $3.2 million. They previously pegged Ike Davis at $3.5 million, which is exactly where he settled; they predicted Ruben Tejada would get $1 million and he got $1.1 million; and they had Eric Young going for $1.9 million, just a hair off from the $1.85 million he signed for.
