AAA -Las Vegas 51s (40-36)__________________________________
SALT LAKE 5, LAS VEGAS 6 (Box)
Ike Davis went deep again and Wilmer Flores drove in three runs as Vegas beat Salt Lake 6-5. The home run was Ike's fifth in his last four games. In 58 plate appearances, he is now batting .333/.483/.778 and I'm starting to pick up what he's putting down. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Ike rejoined the big league club any day now, and I say this as someone who was sarcastically applauding his first two homer effort last week. What he's done recently out in AAA is not something the Ike who was sent down was capable of doing. Something has to be different.
- CF Brian Bixler: 2-4, RBI
- 1B Ike Davis: 2-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR (5), BB
- 2B Wilmer Flores: 2-4, R, 3 RBI, 2 K
- 3B Rylan Sandoval: 0-4, K
- C Francisco Pena: 0-4
- DH Juan Centeno: 2-3, K; That's a .419/.457/.484 line over his last ten games
- RF Mike Baxter: 1-2, 2 R, 3B, 2 BB
- RHP Matt Fox: 6 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
- LHP Robert Carson: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K
- LHP Jack Leathersich: 1 IP, 2 BB, K
Also, in an apparent depth move the Mets have signed 35-year-old journeyman Giancarlo Alvarado:
Also, the Mets have signed Giancarlo Alvarado, a 35-year-old righty who was pitching in Mexican League, to a minor league deal.
— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) June 24, 2013
The journeyman has been at it since 1995. In the ensuing decade, he's compiled a 3.71 ERA throughout the minors, independent leagues, and even the Nippon Pro Baseball League. He has never appeared in a major league game.
AA -Binghamton Mets (47-28)_____________________________________
BINGHAMTON 3, PORTLAND 0 (Box)
The B-Mets shut-out Portland Monday night behind a strong outing from Erik Goeddel, who went seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Cesar Puello led the way offensively, and what he's been doing is so ridiculous that I thought I would play around with some arbitrary end-points on Baseball-Reference. The problem is, Puello's been so good all season that's it's hard to find a period that stands out above the rest. One thing that stood out a bit is that as the season has gone on, his strikeouts have decreased a bit while his power has ticked up. For example, since May 7th, Puello has slugged just over .700 while striking out under 18% of the time. The point is, Puello's been consistently awesome all year and has probably punched his ticket to Vegas following the AA all-star game on July 10th. Unless he's promoted tomorrow, which wouldn't surprise me either.
- 2B Daniel Muno: 0-3, R, BB
- LF Travis Taijeron: 0-3, BB, 2 K
- DH Allan Dykstra: 0-1, 3 BB; <--- Machine
- CF Cesar Puello: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, K; Note the second straight start in center, with Alonzo Harris on the DL with a concussion
- SS Wilfredo Tovar: 1-4, K
- 1B Rhyne Hughes: 1-4, R, 2B, 2 K
- RHP Erik Goeddel: 7 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, BB, 7 K
- RHP Jeff Walters: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K; .152 opponent average over his last ten games
- REHAB ALERT - LHP Pedro Feliciano: 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K; That's the first hit he's allowed since joining Binghamton
Hi-A -St. Lucie Mets (39-33)________________________________________
BRADENTON 6, ST LUCIE 4 (Box)
Dustin Lawley smacked a game-tying 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th which only served to prolong the inevitable as St. Lucie eventually fell in extra innings. The home run for Lawley was his 15th of the season and one of four hits for him on the night. Lawley--a 19th round pick in the 2011 draft--has shown some serious pop this season. His average and on-base percentage are bogged down by a comically low BABIP, which is either indicative of him making lots of weak contact or just being horribly unlucky. If minorleaguecentral.com is to be trusted, his 10.4% line drive percentage leads me to believe it's more of the former.
- 2B TJ Rivera: 2-6, R, K
- SS Matt Reynolds: 0-4, 3 K
- LF Dustin Lawley: 4-6, R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR (15)
- 1B Jayce Boyd: 2-6, R, RBI
- C Kevin Plawecki: 3-6
- DH Cam Maron: 2-4
- REHAB ALERT - CF Matt den Dekker: 1-6, RBI, K
- LHP Alex Panteliodis: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K
Lo-A -Savannah Sand Gnats(44-30)__________________________________
SAVANNAH 2, AUGUSTA 3 (Box)
The Savannah offense continued to struggle since the promotion of their best two bats as they lost to Augusta 3-2. Ironically, the one bat that is not struggling belongs to Phillip Evans, who had his 5th multi-hit game in his last 10 during which he's hit .364/.436/.485 with just five strikeouts in 37 plate appearances. Brandon Nimmo's bat continues to struggle, striking out twice in four plate appearances. Nimmo has now struck out in 16 of his last 45 trips to bat.
- RF Eudy Pina: 2-5, 2B, K; That makes ten strikeouts in his last five games, ouch
- CF Brandon Nimmo: 0-3, BB, 2 K; Speaking of strikeouts, Nimmo's strikeout streak stretches back to June 11th
- LF Stefan Sabol: 1-4, R, RBI, HR (7), K
- 1B Cole Frenzel: 0-4, K
- SS Phillip Evans: 2-3, R, 2B, BB;
- RHP Jake Kuebler: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K
Short-A - Brooklyn Cyclones (4-3)_____________________________
BROOKLYN 3, HUDSON VALLEY 3 (Box)
Gavin Cecchini hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run for Brooklyn Monday night as they won a low scoring affair 3-2. Not much else to report here as we're still dealing with extremely small sample sizes. Although, it does appear that Patrick Biondi is quite fast--he stole his third base of the season.
- CF Patrick Biondi: 0-2, R, 2 BB, 2 K
- 2B LJ Mazzilli: 1-4, BB, 2 K
- SS Gavin Cecchini: 1-4, RBI
- 1B Matthew Oberste: 0-3, R, BB, 2 K
- LF Jared King: 1-4, RBI, BB, K
- C Colton Plaia: 1-4
- RHP Robert Gsellman: 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K; Jason Parks of Baseball Prospectus describes Gsellman thusly, "With the strong frame and the feel for throwing strikes, Gsellman could develop into a workhorse type at the back of a rotation, but he's a long way from that projection."
R - Kingsport Mets (2-3)_____________________________
KINGSPORT 3, BRISTOL 1 (Box)
Of note here is the debut of 2012 14th round pick, Chris Flexen, who the Mets went over-slot to sign. You can find Alex Nelson's scouting report here. Offensively, Jeffrey Diehl continues to rake. Still just 19 years-old, Diehl was apparently drafted as a catcher but has since moved to first base. His scouting report can be found here.
- 2B Jeff McNeil: 0-4, K
- SS Amed Rosario: 0-4
- 1B Jeffrey Diehl: 1-3, R, RBI, BB, HR (2), K
- C Adrian Abreu: 2-2, R, 3B, 2 BB
- CF Champ Stuart: 1-3, RBI, 2 BB, K
- DH Joe Tuschak: 0-4
- 1B Zachary Mathieu: 0-4
- LF Bradley Marquez: 1-4, R, 2B, RBI
- LHP Chris Flexen: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K;
R - GCL Mets (0-3)______________________________

Hey guys! GUYS! I found Branden Kaupe.
- LF Vicente Lupo: 0-3, BB, K
- RF Wuilmer Becerra: 0-4, 2 K
- 1B Dominic Smith: 0-3, BB
- CF Ivan Wilson: 2-3
- 3B Jhoan Urena: 0-3, 2 K
- C Jose Garcia: 0-3, K
- 2B Branden Kaupe: 1-3, K
- RHP Gaither Bumgardner: 1 IP, 1 K; 2013 23rd round pick
Star of the Night
Dustin Lawley deserves the star for his 4-for-6 night. Lawley has hit .245/.300/.516 this season over 277 at-bats. He's also mashing lefties to the tune of .297/.342/.622.
Honorable Mentions go out to Erik Goeddel, Jeff Walters, Cesar Puello, Chris Flexen, Jeff Diehl, and Ike too, I suppose. I must point out that I'm interested to see what the trio of Flexen, Taylor, and Gsellman will look like at year's end.
Goat of the Night
Justin Hampson had a miserable night, allowing four hits and three runs in just 0.2 innings.
