The Mets have now won a series in Philadelphia and a series in Atlanta, all on the same road trip. According to Gary Cohen, that's the first time that's ever happened. Cheers all around.
Matt Harvey was all set to be the star in this game, but he was forced out early because of a rain delay in the seventh inning. When the Mets and Phillies returned to action, Charlie Manuel threw his left-handed relievers and David Wright and watched the fireworks fly.
Wright ended his day a single short of the cycle. He went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. Harvey rolled through six innings with six strikeouts, one walk, and two hits allowed. It was a good day to be a Mets fan.
The turning point happened in the fifth inning when Juan Lagares led off with a routine fly ball to center field. Ben Revere gloved the ball, but then it dropped to the ground when he went to transfer to his bare hand. The umpires ruled that this did not constitute a catch, and the Mets followed with a barrage of doubles that turned a 1-0 game into a 4-0 one.
Everything after that was delicious gravy.
