Although news first broke of Noah Syndergaard's promotion to Double-A Binghamton on Saturday afternoon, he was quickly penciled in as the B-Mets' starter on Sunday. Syndergaard just flew into Binghamton last night, but that didn't stop him from being pretty darn effective in his Double-A debut.

Syndergaard pitched six innings today and struck out seven batters while walking just one. He allowed two runs and five hits and left the game with a 6-2 lead over Erie.

Those figures are encouragingly right in line with what Syndergaard was doing at Single-A St. Lucie this season. He struck out 64 batters in 63 innings with just 16 walks and a 3.11 ERA in the Florida State League.

Last night, Binghamton catcher Xorge Carillo seemed pretty excited about the arrival of Syndergaard.

"Obviously his fastball is pretty good," said B-Mets catcher Xorge Carrillo, who caught Syndergaard this season in St. Lucie. "He sits 94 to 98 (miles per hour). He's a big boy. He's got a huge frame, really good curveball.

"The curveball is probably his best strikeout pitch. He'll mix in a slider and a change-up. He's a two-seamer that sits 90 to 94 (miles per hour). His command has gotten better. I think that's the only thing he needs to work on, but his stuff is just - it's pretty good stuff."

For at least one day, that stuff has held up against tougher competition, and that's good news for the future of the Mets. Dickey be praised.
