After a disappointing season with the Mets, Shaun Marcum has signed with Cleveland.

While the Mets continue to search for starting pitching depth, they’ll have to look past their old friend Shaun Marcum. The righty has agreed to a minor league deal with the Indians, according to Jon Morosi:

The Mets took a flier on Marcum last offseason, but his tenure with the team only lasted 14 games. Shoulder surgery ended his season on July 15.

The 2013 season will serve as one of the worst of Marcum’s career. Although his peripherals were roughly in line with his career norms, his ERA was an unsightly 5.29 through 78.1 innings. The gap between his ERA and 3.64 FIP could be explained by career highs in BABIP and LOB%, but regressing those numbers doesn’t help if Marcum can’t stay off the disabled list. The Mets would probably prefer a more reliable innings eater as insurance for their own injury prone pitchers, like potential number five starter Jenrry Mejia.
