In less than a one-hour span, Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik has done a huge favor for Mets GM Sandy Alderson.

According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, the Mariners have acquired first baseman/outfielder Logan Morrison in exchange for pitcher Carter Capps. The news comes only minutes after the Mariners, in their attempt to stay in the winter meetings spotlight, also snagged Corey Hart on a one-year contract. Morrison had been targeted by teams such as Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh, among others, in an attempt to fill their holes at first base.

Now with Morrison and Hart quickly off the table, the only viable first base candidates around the league appear to be James Loney and his astronomical asking price, Mitch Moreland, and Ike Davis, whom the Mets seem more inclined to trade than Lucas Duda.

In their previous discussions with Milwaukee about Davis, the Mets reportedly asked for RHP Tyler Thornburg and were rebuffed. Its probably likely that Sandy Alderson and co. have already received a call from the Brewers in the fallout of the Morrison and Hart news along with a couple of other teams. In other related news, Jack Zduriencik will be receiving a thank you card from Sandy Alderson soon.
