The Mets reached an agreement with outfielder Curtis Granderson on a four-year, $60 million contract.
The New York Mets have agreed with free agent outfielder Curtis Granderson on a four-year deal worth $60 million. Granderson has long been rumored to be the top free agent target for the Mets. In addition to his salary, Granderson will also cost the Mets their second round pick because the Yankees chose to extend to him a qualifying offer.
The deal is similar to what many had projected for Granderson before the offseason began. Fangraphs’ Contract Crowdsourcing Project projected a four-year deal for $56 million, MLB Trade Rumors projected a three-year deal for $45 million, and Jon Heyman of CBS predicted a four-year deal for $60 million.
Granderson is expected to play in a corner outfield spot for the Mets next season. Before the signing, Fangraphs’ depth chart labeled left field as the weakest position on the Mets, predicting that the Mets would get 1.0 WAR out of the position. The majority of the playing time was expected to go to Eric Young Jr.
