Teams like the White Sox and Mariners might not be in on the veteran outfielder.
There's "optimism" that the New York Mets and Curtis Granderson will reach a deal, says Jon Heyman. The 32-year-old outfielder and the team have been linked in rumors ever since he declined a qualifying offer from the Yankees, but things have seemingly heated up recently after Sandy Alderson and Granderson met for dinner on Sunday.
In his tweet, Heyman notes that there's no evidence the White Sox are making a strong push to sign Granderson, and he points out the Mariners are focused on Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, and Shin-Soo Choo.
Granderson is coming off a year in which he dealt with freak injuries and didn't produce as he typically does at the plate. Even so, he was worth 1.4 fWAR in just 245 plate appearances. He hit 84 home runs between 2011 and 2012, though, and was worth 6.7 fWAR and 2.3 fWAR in those seasons, respectively. There is little doubt that he would represent a significant upgrade in the Mets' outfield.
