Meet the Mets

The Mets met with Curtis Granderson, the free agent outfielder confirmed. Granderson had some nice salmon and they talked about the team. As Ken Davidoff writes, Granderson isn't perfect but neither are the Mets. Adam Rubin has five reasons why the Mets should ink the outfielder.

Wally Backman is officially back as the Las Vegas 51s manager for 2014.

Around the Majors

Yesterday was a huge day in baseball, capped off by the Yankees' signing of outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. The ex-Red Sox center fielder gets 7 years and $153 million.

The Marlins, meanwhile, inkedJarrod Saltalamacchia to a 3 year, $21 million deal. The Red Sox replaced Saltalamacchia with veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski.

The Tigersadded closer Joe Nathan.

The Mariners are considered major players for Robinson Cano and may be willing to offer a $200 million contract.

Carlos Beltran has a three-year offer from the Royals and it seems like he may actually land back in Kansas City.

The RaysacquiredRyan Hanigan and Heath Bell in a three-way deal with the Reds and Diamondbacks.

The A's made a couple of deals yesterday, dealingSeth Smith to the Padres for reliever Luke Gregerson. They also got outfielder Craig Gentry from the Rangers for outfield prospect Michael Choice.

The RockiesdealtDexter Fowler to the Astros for Brandon Barnes and Jordan Lyles. The Rockies are also nearing a deal with first baseman Justin Morneau, which will take them out of the running for Ike Davis.

Cole Hamels says there's a lot of bitterness and finger-pointing in the Phillies clubhouse these days.
