Washington has bolstered an already-strong rotation.
The Washington Nationals have acquired Doug Fister from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Steve Lombardozzi, Ian Krol, and Robbie Ray, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish. Fister joins Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, and Gio Gonzalez in a stacked rotation in Washington.
As for the trio of players heading to Detroit, Lombardozzi is the most familiar name, but he's put up just a 74 OPS+ in 755 plate appearances in the big leagues. He's still just 25 years old, but he hasn't set the world on fire. Krol, a relief pitcher, made his major league debut this year at the age of 22 and posted a 3.95 ERA and 4.69 FIP in 27.1 innings of work. And Ray has not yet pitched above Double-A, but he's left-handed and had a decent year at that level in his age-21 season this year. In total, that's not a haul for Fister.
For his career, Fister has a 3.53 ERA and 3.44 FIP over five seasons with the Mariners and Tigers. His strikeout rate has not been great, but he rarely walks opposing hitters and is stingy when it comes to giving up home runs. His arrival in the National League East is bad news for the Mets, and he's under the Nationals' control through the 2015 season.
