Your Friday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

Starting pitching is one of the Mets' needs this winter, but don't expect the team to sign Phil Hughes. The 27-year-old is looking for a two-year deal, and the Mets aren't willing to give him more than one.

If you're looking for something to do for a few minutes, you can check out the Daily News's "Keep 'em or Dump 'em" poll about the Mets.

Around MLB

The big news in baseball heading into Thanksgiving was the Twins' four-year deal with Ricky Nolasco. Aaron Gleeman analyzed the deal and seems to think it's perfectly reasonable. Rob Neyer agrees. And Jesse Lund of Twinkie Town sounds satisfied, too.

The Dodgers' new mega-deal for television broadcasts might be cost cable providers and customers a pretty penny.

While the Mets might be out on Phil Hughes, the Twins are not. Nolasco and Hughes might not sound great, but the Twins were and still are in desperate need of big league starting pitchers.
