The outfielder had a bit of a down year in 2013 but could rebound.

It was reported this morning that the Mets had come to an agreement with former Oakland and Arizona outfielder Chris Young, but how much was the deal worth? We appear to have an answer.

That sounds like a lot of money for a guy who and an OBP below .300 and a slugging percentage below .400 last season. On the other hand, it's hard to sign a player with Young's upside and relative youth to just a one-year deal these days. From that perspective, the deal makes more sense.

The 30-year-old Young's ability to play good defense and hit lefties this season should come in handy for the Mets this season if his career 23-percent strikeout rate doesn't get in the way too much. Now the question is: Will Young be serving in a starting, platoon, or reserve role in 2014?
