Despite another ineffective start in Philadelphia, Dillon Gee and the Mets were able to earn a victory over the Phillies, 5-4 in a game shortened by rain. Gee allowed four "earned" runs in six innings, three of which were actually earned and one which came home on a botched call in the second.
With runners on the corners with one out in the second, Cody Asche hit a drive to center which Juan Lagares caught. He then unleashed a strong throw to the plate, and it appeared Travis d'Arnaud had tagged a sliding Domonic Brown. However, the umpire ruled him safe, which would prove to be the incorrect call as replay later showed that the tag was clearly applied.
The Mets would get on the board in the fourth with a solo shot by David Wright, his second in as many days. They would unload on Phillies starter Tyler Cloyd in the sixth. Daniel Murphy led off the inning with a long homer to right, making it 2-1 Mets. Wright reached via single and Lucas Duda followed him by getting hit by a pitch. Lagares added to the lead with a two-run triple, and d'Arnaud gave the Mets a critical fifth run with a double off the wall in right.
With a 5-1 lead, Gee started to falter in the bottom of the sixth. Cesar Hernandez, Jimmy Rollins, and Chase Utley all doubled to start the inning, making it 5-2. Carlos Ruiz grounded out to make it 5-3, and then a wild pitch by Gee made it 5-4. However, he would allow nothing else.
After Wright drew a walk in the top of the seventh, the game was stopped for rain and eventually called.
