The Mets ambushed Cole Hamels for three runs in the first inning, capped off by David Wright's two-run home run on the second pitch he saw, and Daisuke Matsuzaka was solid enough over six innings as the Mets defeated the Phillies 6-4 on Friday evening. Wright's return to the club today was incredibly welcome, as he contributed a pair of hits. Welcome back, David.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, meanwhile, went six solid innings and he allowed four runs on four hits. All of that damage came in the fourth inning, as Darin Ruf hit a bases-clearing double with nobody out. Matsuzaka was able to limit the damage, allowing just one more run to score in the frame.
