Giants starter Madison Bumgarner struck out 10 batters in seven innings while New York native Juan Perez registered three hits and a walk in New York's 2-1 loss to San Francisco on a lovely Thursday afternoon in Flushing.
Both Jon Niese and Bumgarner threw up doughnuts through the first three frames, but the Giants broke through in the fourth when Perez knocked in Hector Sanchez with a line drive single to right-center field. Ehire Adrianza, whose name Gary Cohen was practicing all morning, followed up with an RBI ground out to give the Giants their winning run.
The Mets got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when Josh Satin doubled and Daniel Murphy hit an RBI single, but that would be all in terms of scoring for the Metsies. They would put a runner in scoring position in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings but failed to score again.
